Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physicians…
We both wish to provide quality, evidence-based, individualized care to our patients and their families.
We both can practice autonomously. NPs and Physicians might practice in family or general practice, or could be highly specialized. There is a need to consult with colleagues for advice and refer patients to specialists and services. Does anyone REALLY practice independently? No. Autonomous is not the same as independent.
Some patients prefer NPS. Some patients prefer physicians. Some patients don’t care as long as their needs are met. We all own and share the need to maintain strong ethics and best evidence based practices.
Nursing and medicine are complementary. Good nursing care + good medicine = holistic & well-rounded care. This is proven by our centuries-long history as partners in healthcare.
